Things to Try
If you are new, or new-ish, to mindfulness I urge you to give some of these practices a go. See how you get on! Remember that mindfulness is all about being open to whatever happens in the present moment. Not all of these practices will appeal, so choose whichever ones you feel drawn to and have fun with them.
Not taking ourselves too seriously is a great lesson of mindfulness. Remembering to enjoy being present can get lost in trying too hard or "striving". A wonderful yoga teacher I once worked with encouraged us to cultivate an "inner smile". During a class he would ask whether we were smiling inside - I would instantly become aware that my jaw was tight and a frown had appeared between my eyebrows. Just hearing the words inner smile was always enough to relax me and bring me right back into the here and now. And it's amazing how often an inner smile spills outwards!
