Q: What are the benefits of mindfulness for children?

A: The possibilities open to young people learning this practice are pretty boundless. Each child is unique and will take from the course what is right for them at the time. Broadly speaking the benefits could include: better relationships; more experience of calmness, peace and happiness; reduced stress, anger and anxiety; better performance in sports and exams. It is best not to limit their experience by focusing on particular outcomes but allow for the possibilities.
Q: I am a parent and would like my child to learn mindfulness. What can I do?

A: Please refer your child's teacher/school to this website and explain what benefits you think your child can gain. You can also refer to the Resources here and to the Things to Try section Please spread the word!
Q: What qualifications do you have to teach this?

A: Dawn is a trained children's yoga teacher. MiSP has certified her to teach their . b and Paws b courses.
She has up-to-date Level 3 safeguarding training, full insurance and enhanced disclosure DBS. Dawn has over 20 years experience as a practitioner of yoga and mindfulness.

Q: Do you have a safeguarding policy?

A: Both Laura and Dawn have undertaken training in safeguarding and are committed to the welfare of all young people in their care. When they go into schools they always familiarise themselves with each school's own safeguarding policy and ensure they know who the Designated Safeguarding Lead is in each establishment.
Mindful Kids Conrwall also has its own annually reviewed safeguarding policy which can be seen here.

Q: Can you teach mindfulness courses in a village hall or yoga studio?

A: MiSP courses can only be taught in settings where there are full safeguarding practices and procedures in place. Some young people need more support once they begin learning mindfulness and schools are best placed to provide this. Some settings are appropriate, please get in touch to check yours.
Q: I am an adult who would like to learn mindfulness. Can you help?

A: Laura is training to teach adults so please get in touch. There are many organisations who can help; plus numerous books, websites and apps. See Resources. Some NHS trusts refer patients for Mindfulness Based courses. If you suffer from anxiety or feel it could help, ask your GP.

Q: Should children be made to learn mindfulness?

A: There are myriad benefits for young people who have an enthusiam to experiment with mindful practices but forcing them to learn doesn't tend to work! Paws b is taught usually to a class of children in primary school but secondary school pupils learning .b tend to do better when they are there as volunteers. But all schools and children are different and decisions about timetabling are for each school leader to decide.
