Course for Schools

The current COVID-19 global pandemic is a formative experience in the lives of children. We know that levels of anxiety are increasing all the time and that economic hardship may follow, putting families under yet more stress and instability. Mindfulness is not the answer to all mental health issues but we know that it helps children regulate their emotions, learn ways to exert control over their thoughts and feelings, and helps build resilience, positivity and happiness. The happiness of children is at the heart of everything we do.

This course is the UK's leading mindfulness curriculum for 11-18 year-olds in schools.

The name stands for "stop and be" which is the simple practice at the heart of the 10 lesson course. To learn more about its development please click below on MiSP.

Each lesson lasts between 40 - 60 minutes and has been expertly crafted for use in the classroom to teach a specific mindfulness skill. The materials have great integrity and research attached to the course can be read here. The course is taught only by teachers with an established mindfulness practice of their own.

It is important to be clear about what this course is NOT. It is not adult mindfulness; it is not therapy; it is not yoga; it is not Buddhism; it is not visualisation; it is not relaxation.

The 10-week course is structured in the following way:

Week 1. An Introduction to Mindfulness                          Week 6: Moving Mindfully

Week 2: Playing Attention                                                    Week 7: Stepping Back

Week 3: Taming the Animal Mind                                       Week 8: Befriending the Difficult

Week 4: Recognising Worry                                                 Week 9: Taking in the Good

Week 5: Being Here Now                                                      Week 10: Putting it All Together

Each lesson explores a different aspect of mindfulness, building on the knowledge and experience gathered. Animations, film footage and worksheets are incorporated as well as activities and group discussions. Each week home practice is set and the students have access to online resources.

At the heart of .b is the hope of introducing young people, in an interesting, stimulating and practical way, to the basics of mindful practice which they will hopefully all try. Most will enjoy it! Many of them will use it from time to time. Some of them

will practise daily. We all hope that as many as possible of the students will remember what they learn and leave open the possibility of returning to it in later life. Read some testimonials here.
